Trying to stay away from High-Fructose corn syrup? Here’s a sugary surprise…

Share |

Many of today’s families are trying to keep high-fructose corn syrup (or HFCS) out of their diets. In fact, a recent national survey of 376 moms found that 56% are trying to avoid the sweetener. That’s because we now believe it’s not good for us (86% of the survey respondents thought it was unhealthy): HFCS has been linked to rising obesity rates as well as diabetes, yet because the ingredient is such an inexpensive source of sweetener, it is added to a host of common foods. Most of us are aware that sodas and sweet juice drinks are loaded with the stuff, but other sources are more surprising. You can find HFCS in everything from frozen dinners to yogurt—even canned soups.

Another food that contains HFCS that might shock you: Packaged sandwich bread. Only 17% of those surveyed knew that bread typically contains high-fructose corn syrup! So even though you might be doing your best to avoid HFCS, it’s still finding its way into your family’s diet, when you serve them sandwiches made with regular bread. Rudi’s Organic Bakery breads are different. They’re never made with high-fructose corn syrup—or with trans fats or chemical preservatives—just high quality, certified organic ingredients. Life is full of sweet surprises—high fructose corn syrup in your bread shouldn’t be one of them!
