Library Card Sign-up Month

Share |

Did you know September is Library Card Sign-up Month? This is a great reminder to both parents and children that a library card is the most important school supply of all. Your local library is not only a cost effective route to many educational resources, it’s also far “greener” than buying books you may not need to keep.

Many libraries rapidly acquire current DVDs and books on exercise/fitness, health/wellness, food/recipes from around the world, green/planet-friendly living, and other hot topics that can vastly improve the quality of your life. A library card provides students the resources they need to compete academically. Nearly 90% of public libraries provide free access to databases of news articles, encyclopedias and test preparation materials─as well as homework help and resources.

Public libraries are also the #1 access point for free Internet access. This is a vital resource for families without home access─especially since 96% of school districts require students to use the Internet to complete their homework. Today’s libraries provide students of all ages with the tools they need to succeed. Did you know there are 52 ways to use your library card? For example:

  1. Take the kids to see a free movie.
  2. Download an e-book.
