Sweetly Satisfying Apple Pie

Ingredients:

  • 2 prepared, unbaked pie crusts
  • 6 cups peeled and sliced Rome or Granny Smith Apples
  • 1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup Florida Crystals® Organic Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Florida Crystals® Organic Cane Sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 egg white, for glazing crust

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450º F. Toss apple slices with lemon juice.
  2. Add sugars, spices, vanilla and four. Toss well and mound in pastry.
  3. Dot apple slices with slivers of butter.
  4. Cut second pastry into strips and weave lattice design over top of apples. (Or use whole and cut opening for steam to escape.)
  5. Brush top of pastry with lightly beaten egg white to glaze.
  6. Place on a baking sheet and set in the middle of the preheated oven for 15 minutes to set crust.
  7. Reduce heat to 350º F and continue baking for 40-50 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  8. (If crust begins to over-brown, cover loosely with aluminum foil).
