Tempeh Sloppy Joes


  • 1 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 8-oz pkg.s Lightlife® Soy Tempeh
  • 1 28-oz. can diced tomatoes, with juice
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp. vegetarian Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Hot sauce to taste
  • Salt & Pepper, optional, to taste
  • 6 bulky rolls, toasted


  1. Wash and prepare all the veggies.
  2. In a large skillet, heat canola oil over medium heat.
  3. Add onion and peppers, saute until softened, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add garlic and chili powder and sauté 2 minutes longer.
  5. With your hands, break up the tempeh and crumble it into the skillet, breaking it up more with the help of a wooden spatula or spoon.
  6. Add tomatoes, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and water; mix well.
  7. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until heated through about ten minutes.
  8. Remove from heat; stir in cilantro and hot sauce. Split rolls in half and fill.
